Funding & partners

The LAS interactive platform grew out of the BMBF and DFG funded project Laboratory Animal Science online (vtk online).

vtk online was developed at the Philipps University of Marburg as part of the BMBF funding program "Alternatives to animal experiments" (project title: Animal experiment exercises online; e-learning as a training module for the qualification of students and young scientists in the biomedical disciplines as a contribution to the 3Rs concept). Further funding of the project has been provided by the DFG (German Research Foundation) since 2010.

The project originally grew out of the website “Animal experiment exercises online” (Versuchstierkunde online), which was developed at Philipps University Marburg and was used in teaching at the university between 2006 and 2008 (for the Biology degree course). In the summer of 2008, the website was replaced by “Laboratory Animal Science online”, which was developed in the context of federal research funding. Since December 2010 vtk online has been developed further in the framework of DFG funding. A cooperation with Interpharma and Novartis in Switzerland allowed the content to be translated into English and French in 2010/11.

In 2013, the TransMIT project area Laboratory Animal Science was set up and was in charge of the fee-based section of the website till the end of 2019.

In 2019 the LAS interactive GmbH has been established in conjunction with the Philipps-University of Marburg. The company will continue to offer the platform vtk online free of charge as well as the fee based online trainings of the las campus.
